I've googled this and was bombarded with like 10 million posts...does anyone have a quick answer as to what would cause the remote start to just make the truck crank but not turnover? It's happening on my 05' Off-Road.

Thought maybe it could be some sort of override that might have been switched on, or a fuse maybe?

I'm going to try and bring the 05' to the next event  so everyone can see it - it sounds like a dayem 747 - it's so awesome

Was the remote start installed recently? Maybe take it back to the shop that it installed it.

No...it's a couple years old...it was working fine and then all of a sudden this started happening...and my mom (who drives it) had no clue when it comes to vehicles...

Couple things it could be
Check if the lights on the dash come on when using it before it starts cranking.
if they do check to see if the light is blinking for the immobilizer on the dash.
It is possible it lost the programing for the remote starter.
they may have a piece in the dash for it or it may have an extra key that lost programing

Good way to check this is to leave one extra key right near the ignition with the car off.
lock it and try the remote start if the X fires that is the problem.
you may need to reprogram the system so the X sees the remote start.

If the dash lights do not come on while cranking it could be a fuse or relay.
both would be under dash near the remote start. plugged it to it's harness.
this would give the same effect as the key program concern.

A crank no start situation from a remote start.
but starts fine by the Key.

Hope this helps

I had a remote start in my pathfinder, worked pretty well, the starter was always a problem with that truck anyways. Pretty common problem with them. Regardless, I don't think it hurts the starter in anyway. Worked fine with it in the truck, never had an issue other than the occasional refusal to turn over, trying it a second time would do the trick however.

In my 13' I had the dealer install it before I picked it up, so any problems with it will be theirs, not mine LoL
I also bought the 05' used with it already installed...think my mom changed the battery in the remote and might have killed the programming...I'll try to do what Ernie suggested and report back :)

So, when I opened the door, got in and then locked it (with the remote), the security light was on - steady and not flashing. Then I held down the start button with the key and remote next to the ignition...then the security light started blinking like it normally does. Went ahead and doubled tapped tapped the start button (which is how you're supposed to start it) and it cranked and started just fine. My mom was in a hurry so I didn't get to turn it off and try it with the remote from a distance, but she's going to tomorrow. Does that sound like I might have reprogrammed it by doing that?

It might have
It could have reprogramed or reset itself from the loss of power from the battery swap.
The true test will be from outside the X, now.
If it starts OK then, it should be fine.
