So... a few weeks ago my parking brake light came on and decided it wants to stay on. Parking brake isn't actually on, after I drive for a while the light on the dash will turn off. Has anyone had this or know what might be causing this? Right before the light came on I had dropped the engine skid plate but I think that was by chance... Any thoughts??

You have a first gen, right? Isn't the parking brake light the same as the foot brake warning light? I would check the fluid resevoir for the master brake cylinder. On mine, the level used to go down ocassionally and the light would be on when I first began to drive. But after driving a while, the light would go off (probably due either the sloshing of the fluid in the resevoir, or heat expansion as the engine compartment warmed up).

X2 Check that first. Low level is the same as brake light.

Hmmm never even crossed my mind to check the fluid! I will definitely do that first and if its not that, I will be doing brake and rotors this weekend so I will get motivated to trace the problem.
Thanks guys!

Ok answer me this... I did my brakes 3 years ago on my own but also did the bearings... now just doing rotors and brakes (not bearings) i can't remember if those have to come out or I can just leave the whole hub assembly intact...

IIRC, when you pull the hub assembly off the truck, you have to remove the outer bearing. I am not 100% sure, but I think if you are changing the rotors you need pull the hub assembly off the vehicle. I will, however, defer to others who may be more knowledgable. The pads can changed without removing any bearings - you just take the caliper off the truck/rotor, and change the pads.

Rotors will come off without touching the bearings.

Well the sad news... hub assembly has to come off to replace rotors... good news... my rotors were in great shape so they didnt need to come off. And new brake pads solved the brake light being on. Glad to have one more nice weekend to wrench in the driveway.

Yes the hub has to come off, you don't have to adjust, remove the wheel bearings.
Although, if you have wheeled in water/mud, it's not a bad idea to do. I do mine after every deep mud wheeling weekend.
