I know there have been posts about headliner issues, but I havent really read anything to answer my questions there,.. So,... for those of you who have done the headliner repair, what did you find is the best route to go?

Also, I have been thinking about just getting in there and starting to cut away all the fabric while its in the X, would this make a big mess, is that stuff dried up enough that it would get all over everything inside?

And finally, the last thought I had about it, was " I wonder if it could just be left bare, without the fabric on it, and not look too bad (would it be possible to get it looking clean), or hell, maybe even ryno line it ???????

I have the same problem and it is driving me nuts too! Did you see if it is possible to remove the foam that is under the fabric liner from the metal roof? I am seriously considering that as well. If i do i either plan on painting it the color of the truck (if not painted already)

I did the glue but it doesn't work, unless there is a special type?

It appears to be a few bolts and clips. i may try just taking it off this weekend.

there are bits and pieces of foam left all over the roof now, most of it did come off, but some is still stuck up there. I thought about trying to get it all off, but, its not metal up there under the fabric , so I didnt want to mess with it too much while it was still in the truck.

do you mean the foam is glued to the metal roof? i know there is foam under the fabric but im looking to detach the foam completely from the metal skin of the truck. It appears to be bolts from the visors, hand grips and tie downs in the rear. I think if i take those all off the liner will slip out unless it is glued.

the fabric isnt glued right to the metal roof, its glued to the headliner insert, the piece that is put in under the metal roof, it more like a type of pressed cardboard or something like that, and its one pc, from front to back.

Go to spiketv.com and do a search on the Trucks show and then, within that, the episode that outlines in-cabin repairs. They did a show in 2010 that included what you could do to take the headliner out and replace the old with new fabric, including the materials that you would need to do it the right way the first time.

Basically, it came down to $40 in material and about 4 hours of your time and you'd solve the problem.

Ok thanks ill check into it. I think in the end im just going to take it out and paint the metal if it isnt already painted. I pulled the service manual and it appears to be held on by a few bolts and should easily come off.

Based upon what I saw on trucks, the relining effort is painfully easy - so much so that I wish that I knew about this with my old saab as I lived a drooping headliner for almost 2 years because I didn't know how easy it was to fix.

I've seen a couple pics of people tearing the cloth and painting the board and of one Xterra with about 50 small screws holding the headliner in place. haha
