my centerlink is crushing my oil filter.... any ideas what is creating this?

Is it the stock steering?
If so check to see what's bent..

I have the fulll SLR steering.... & I don'T see any bends.....
The last time we were out, I saw my idler arm brace was only bolted to the idler arm & was hanging on the other side... that could not be the problem?

Shake the steering.
See if you can move it.

Can you take a few pics and post them up? That might help with the troubleshooting.

Off the top of my head:
The loose IAB has me wondering if all the bolts keeping the idler arm are in place: Check to make sure you have your bolts securing the Idler Arm to the frame - if that is able to pivot, I think it could cause the CL to hit the filter.

sounds like the Idler arm bushings may be toast, or not tightened down all the way and causes your centerlink to rotate.

Well... now I have an oil leak as well..... I think it may be coming from that squished oil filter....

Well... I tried shaking the steering & everything seems to be secure (except the idler arm brace that's missing a bolt)

So now I have the steering issue + an oil leak issue.... any help would be appreciated!

Do you have a SLR IAB or something else?

Picture will help but from what was described my guess is that you zanged (off-road technical jargon meaning ?you smacked the crap out of?) your IAB and IA maybe crushing the bushings as Ken suggested or even bending the pin. Sometimes you can do this without ?loosening? the steering but just having it operate at different angles (maybe pushing it back). I?ve done this with a SLR IAB because it sucks. It braces the IA ok but can not take a hit. I would guess that this could also happen with other braces especially if a bolt is missing. The bolt or bolts being loose in itself should not push back your steering but would not let the brace do its job of keeping your steering from getting "loose", the IA would have had to be pushed back. Does it look like the holes for the IAB and the frame still line up? Are they egged out?

Ok... so oil leak is from the oil filter... there's a hole in it ... must be from the centerlink hiting it!

I agree the oil leak is from the steering problem.

Your brace is most likely toast (garbage, trashed, no good). Look where the bolts go through and you will most likely see that the areas around the holes have bubbled out a bit rather than being flat.
A hole that is ?egged out? is no longer round but in the shape of an egg.
If it is the bushings that are squished yes, changing them should do the trick but make sure the IA pin is not bent. Otherwise you?ll be changing the bushings every month or worse your steering will still be hitting the oil filter.

I do not think Nissan sells the ?Pin? part by itself and that you will have to by an ?idler arm kit? that includes both the pin part and the arm. I think it?s around $150.

Well... come to find out, I do NOT have the SLR IAB.... if that's what I have, it's much different from yours... The IAB that you have - mine is stock.... I have a brace at the bottom?!?!?!? Or maybe it's the douchebag that installed my kit wrong & I just never paid much attention.
