Hey everyone,

Quick question so I am hoping to install my new Schrock front bumper this week and just connected to winch so I can just lift and install and I was wondering do I have to relocate the solenoid. I know some run it into the engine compartment but I was curious if I might be able to just leave it as is and run a winch socket extension instead?

Thx

Specking from my personal experience only, I installed my ENCO12,000 winch with integral solenoid into my Shrock bumper in April 2012 and haven't had any issues to date other than with the socket extensions. The center plug pair failed first then the upper plastic plug got brittle (UV?) and broke. Since the Xterra is too tall to fit in the garage it is exposed to the elements 24/7.

If I were to do it again I would simply wire in a wireless remote kit and not use the extension. Connecting the wired remote to the solenoid isn't all that hard if there is problems with the wireless, just have something you can kneel on when stuck in the mud.

Scott, thanks so much for the info, I didn't even consider doing a wireless, I will have to check out a kit. I see your also sporting a pro-link thimble instead of a hook on the front, recommended?

Thanks again love the pic of the X in the river bed, curious if you got water in the cab?

Not familiar with the superwinch, but here's a write-up I did on installing a wireless controller on a smittybilt winch.

I'd recommend a pro link or flat link if it's within your budget

Mike,

No, I've never had water come in on the water crossing. As far as terminal tackle, I don't like hooks on a daily driver. The thimble is stationary when drawn up tight. The line is protected from sun with silicone tape and a band of bike inter-tube.

Nice, I think I might invest in both. Thanks again for the info.
