I'm running a 2014 pro 4x with a set of Goodyear Duratec 265s. I want to protect my deferential and was wondering what the consensus is among the group. I'm fairly certain I need a D44 variant (also known as M226). I want as bulletproof as possible because I'm running with a bit lower clearance than a lot of you.

ARB makes one that is AWESOME!!
It has a fill and drain hole as well.
Thank you ARB, NEXterra and E!

I seriously considered the Arb diff cover. I went with PRG instead.

Greg has a decent write up about the 4 main covers on his site here;
http://www.prgproducts.com/shop/product/226-arb-cover/
Hope this helps.

I've been happy with my Ballistic Fab cover. It too has a fill port and the diff hsg has a drain plug that works well. Significantly less than the ARB but much less fancy.

I switched the Jeep over to ARB's over a year ago & they have been fantastic.

This was a huge help! Is it because the PRG is better at cooling that you like it better than the ARB? I'm now leaning twards the PRG, the only feature I think I'll miss is the lack of dip-stick that the ARB has; is it worth it?.

That is absolutely why I went with PRG. I tow a trailer at least 2 days a week and as many as five. I have noticed time after time that the rear diff and axle are too hot to touch long after I have parked. I also swapped to Royal Purple at the same time.

The Arb is stronger, being made of iron. And it has the dipstick.

I plan on building a medium sized teardrop in a few years, say 2000#. So I think the PRG is the way to go for me too.

I have the Ballistic Fab. I like it. If I had to do it over again, it would be the ARB for sure.

The PRG cover is cast aluminum. It gouges when dragged over rocks, and it's not nearly as strong as the steel covers.

You guys are forgetting one more option - the Shrockworks Xterra & Frontier Diff Cover. Although it's not a full diff cover like the others, it's still a solution to help beef up and protect the existing diff cover. I have it and have been happy with it.

You are correct. It has been so long since I had one that I forgot they existed. They are good. My problem with them is, if I have to break the seal, which you will do when you install one, Why not just replace it with something stronger.
I thought the BTF cover was going to be what I had for a very long time. Now I have an ARB and a BTF I am going to sell one of these days.
The ARB is expensive but worth every penny!

There is also Rocky Road m226 diff skid/guard. I know a few of us run it and love it.

Went with the ARB in red. I'm considering the gasket unless any here think it's inferior to the sealing caulk. Link: http://mag-hytec.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17&products_id=73

Also ordering 3qts of the Amsoil gear oil. Any thoughts as to the fill line? Found some discussion on newX but it seemed indecisive other than "don't overfill" or "fill it to the 'A'"

Oh!!! Also went with the PRG diff breather kit. I'm hoping the filter is worth it. S'only money pirate2

We just installed mine a few weeks ago, I wouldn't bother with the gasket. Use the correct silicone and clean the mating surface properly and you should be fine.

Follow the directions that come with the diff. You line up both covers and scribe a line in the dipstick. You may want to go a smidge higher on the stick depending on if you are adding shims. That way the fill line is more properly located when the housing is rotated.
