With the price of LEDs dropping the way it is I’m curious if anyone has done this?
What did you get?
How many did you get?
Where did you place them?
I’ve looked at these link (twenty lights seems excessive).
…and these link (price seems excessive).
More interested in it on a 1st Gen but would like to hear about them on any Xterra. Thanks.

I don't have any rock lights, but check these out, Tom: LED Rock Lights.

FYI - Offroad Gorilla is a potential sponsor for ECXC.

These are cheapo autozone lights, but ill replace them with LEDs.

The front wheel well works great. And very visible from the drivers seat. And great for camping if the amperage draw is low.

I wonder if I can mount a tiny disco ball there too.....

Some white Jeep (jac04?) at Gremlin during our night run had them in the rear undercarriage. Not sure if it helped him directly but it sure helped me as I followed.

Id like some under the side mirrors but dont have the patience to flush mount them there.

Am I reading the price for those lights correctly?

I'm going to say yes.

Not too sure about the magnet mounting, how many I would need/want, where to mount and the cost. At $26.25 each, 6 would be $157.50 + any S&H and then switch/relay/wire.

Yeah, that was me.

I bought a 10-piece set from Lux Lighting on ebay for about $60. It looks like they have wised up and are no longer running 'no reserve' auctions. They are great lights, but I definitely wouldn't pay $189 for 8 lights since I wheel at night maybe once/year. If you wheel at night a lot, then they are reasonably priced compared to other high-quality LED rock lights.

http://luxlightingsystems.com/LEDrocklight.html

Anyhow, I am using 8 of them on my Rubicon X:
2 on each rock slider ( 1 in front of rear tire and 1 behind front tire)
2 under rear bumper
1 in front of each front tire, mounted to plastic fenders

I really like them, and I think using 8 is the way to go to get enough light around & under the vehicle. The wide spread of light also helps light up things beside you and well as under you. The magnets make them easy to mount, and I used 3M molding tape to mount them to the fenders. They key is placement so you don't end up with big shadows from the tires.

Thank you my friends.

For me the term “rock lights” is used so folks know what I’m trying to get information about. I have never planned and don’t plan to wheel at night but have been “caught” out in the dark a few times. I don’t care for it. So as “jac04” said in his post, $189 isn’t what I’m looking to spend on this. I’d like to keep the entire project (lights, wire, switch, etc.) under $100.

Also I know a lot of folks hang out their window at times, I try not to. I try to keep my whole body inside my truck when I drive especily if it’s dark so for me “rock lights” wouldn’t help me see where I’m going, only where I am. That’s not really a concern unless I didn’t pick a good line, forgot where I was and got hung up, broke or think I broke and I’m stopped.

The plan is to have them available to see why/how I’m stopped so I can better plan how to get moving again (new line, jack, winch, fix, etc.). … I already look cool driving down the BQE or hanging in the mall parking lot so adding lights for that purpose would be redundant…

After reading through some info from my friend Kelly (racerXXL) over on clubx and the thread on P irate4x4 that he linked me to.

I am going to try the lights “bigredkacy” on that board is selling from his company Under-Glow. The price seems right for me and the lights fall more in line with what I’m planning to do. Plus “bigredkacy” seems to back up his product on the P irate4x4 board.

I used this amazon link “bigredkacy” provided on the P irate board to purchase.

I would post the link to the thread on p irate4x4 so you could access it easily however the link contains the word “pirate” and the auto smiley on this board puts a pirate in the link address so it doesn’t work, sorry.
If you want to look at the thread you can “quote” this post, “copy” this link;

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/lighting-electronics/1531818-rock-lights-free-light-offer-under-glow-com.html

and then “paste’ it in your browser…sorry.

I’ll let you know what happens…again, thank you all for your response(s) in this thread.

Are those going to attach with just an adhesive backing?
