To set everyones minds at ease, I am replacing my gas tank this weekend. If you don't know it has been leaking on the trail and needs to be replaced.

With that said, I am in the market for a fire extinguisher to mount in the truck. Does anyone have suggestions as to size of the extinguisher and mounting? I'm thinking 2.5lb would be good, thoughts?

Mine came from PepBoys or Walmart, not sure of the size... I have it in the back of the Jeep. I looked at mounting it on the roll bars, but unless I had the top down, getting to it would not be easy in an emergency.

I figured that if I couldn't' open the tailgate to get the fire extinguisher (which is within easy reach once the tailgate is open)....the situation was probably beyond my control at that point & hopefully someone else will douse the fire for me.

I figure my extinguisher is to put other people out. If I'm burning, please extinguish me. I'll do the same for you.

You should check out this - it's the company that made my CB antenna mount: Modular Fire Extinguisher Mount

This is how I have mine in my fj. Like others have said its in the back for other peoples use. I may get a smaller one for the front so I could be useful in that situation lol

I actually ran this over the passenger seat in my Jeep and it worked well. But to be honest I like the ones Mike posted better....wish I had known about them when I owned a Jeep

Glad to hear that Rome :D

I have a 2.5 and a 5 lb in the center right behind the seats.
general use is 10 sec per lb. average
so.. 8 to 30 sec. total time for a 2.5lb.
so If it's big.. douse the flames get the people out
then you just get away.
