One thing to think of is to open a savings account with the minimum balance to not incur a service charge. Set up a payroll direct deposit for a set amount ($40 or better) and in a year you'll have about $1000 if on a bi-weekly payroll (26 pays). This is the best option when saving for XMAS that I have found, too bad the major banks don't have XMAS clubs anymore.
JPMC laughed when we told them we still had them in our retail banking sector.
I am even more anal then that. call it the engineer in my. I have a nice emergency fund, plus I have a savings account with my Vacation fund, Gift Fund, Insurance fund, etc... All semi-annual occurencess. I have a nice tracking system I put together in Excel.
