Post subject: I lost Pete today
PostPosted: Thu Feb 19, 2009 3:12 pm
I know I haven't been around, living in PA and all, but thought I'd share.....I'm trying to type thru tears... :( :( :( :( ....but I totalled my beloved truck today.

Those who know me know that my heart implodes every time I think about it. Pete was my Xterra, but so much more than just a vehicle.

I'm fine. Contused hip and leg. No fractures. It was black ice. I pray the other driver is okay too. He had no front end left, but his cab was great in protecting him...way to go NISSAN!!!

Glad to hear you weren't seriously injured Patty. I'm sorry that you lost Pete, but he can be replaced, you can't.

Feel Better!

That looks bad. What happened?

Wow, glad you are ok. Like it has been said, Pete can be replaced, you can't be.

I was in bed and got the call. When I got there, 45 minute drive, the police still were not there and the road was still ICY.

Thanks for asking though

Man Chris, it a good thing you were that close. Patty must have been in ruins by the time you got there. Pete did a good job of keeping her relatively safe through the accident. He was a great truck, I?ll miss seeing him on the trails. :(
Patty is OK and that is most important.

Thanks guys. I'm so sad about it. (and of course, I had to bump into a tree!)

It was about 6am and as warm as it was out (and the fact that I had driven about 40 minutes without incident) there was black ice. Well, whatever you want to call it, the entire surface of the road was slick (the firefighter walking towards me across the street slipped and fell!!!)

I rounded a corner and slid a little, righted, fishtailed and spun sideways/asswards into the little Nissan. We hit and spun me back towards an angle facing him and I hit the tree....not hard, though, just a dent and a crack in the small cross bumper thing.

I wasn't cited, as there were 32 accidents in the area, 50-something in the county. The roads were nuts. I am all over the safe winter driving...never been in an accident before...but today seemed to sneak up on everyone.

Thanks for asking about Chris, Gene....that was sweet. It meant a lot. I'm just happy to still be here. As for another X....we found an '05 Granite one...but also found a nice Jeep. Decisions.....decisions.....I could never replace the emotional value of Pete. So many memories linked to just about everyone in this club. Good or bad, that's what I think about when I see the pics. makes me sad.

Thanks Scott (been a long time....I feel horrible that I haven't been around much) I am SORE....I had no idea something that ISN'T broken could hurt so much. I have a bad hip contusion and bruises in places I didn't even know hit anything. Found a big swelled up bruise about half an hour ago on my left upper arm....right hip and thigh is jacked from hitting the center console. me and Vicodin are going to be good friends for the next several days!

And for you Paco lovers...he's fine too. He went from my side of the truck across to the passenger door and is bruised up on his belly (either the shifter or door handle hit him) but he's a trooper. He's too evil to die, right? hehehe
