I'm pretty sure he can do it on the truck...2nd gen...

Sometimes you get lucky and the C-clip at the end of the half-shaft will hold the little pieces from falling inside. Only once did I have the pieces drop inside and shred the gears. I wasn't even offroading when it happened - just driving in the snow.

Ernie got some of the pieces out of the driver side with his little magnet. I think a few fell inside though. Passenger side is still one big chunk stuck in the splines. Going to drop the diff to work on it rather than trying to work around the suspension, not much room there.
