Post subject: Looking For: Rear Bumper Endcap Plastic
PostPosted: Mon Feb 05, 2007 2:46 pm
I just bounced my new 02 X off of some guard rails, not too bad - but I shredded the passenger side rear-bumper endcap plastic. The mud guard is still good, but the piece that it attaches too that wraps around to the rear bumper is trashed.

Hoping someone might have some kicking around...

Xterraparts.com has them for $35 each, brand new.
They arent even worth the effort of locating at a junkyard.
Otherwise, if it is just dented in, then heat it up and pop it back out and it should be close to new.
Good luck

Ken's right. Those plastic pieces are fairly inexpensive as far as automotive parts go and, even if they are dented badly, you can use a heat gun and pound them back into shape fairly easily. You can even get the white lines out if you are carefull with a torch.

Mine are so trashed now, I don't bother much anymore. :D

Cool, $35 is no biggie.

It's destroyed on mine, slid into the cable-style guard rail and it sliced right through it. Dented the metal undeneath a little, but nothing big.

Also, what the heck is the dryer-vent looking thing that is under that plastic??

Wow! Never seen that one before. A little crazy glue, duct tape, plates & sheet metal screws...oh heck, just order a new one.

That little dryer vent thing? It releaves pressure from inside the cabin. Slam that rear passenger door and watch them flap. :D

Wow, I never knew that. I always wondered what those things did. :)

Yup, not hurt at all. All the snow between the road and the guard-rail cushioned the hit, I think.

Yeah, there are a ton of Semi Trucks that fly up and down 77 all day long. I'll take a few real pictures (not camera phone) that show a little better what damage there was...

Most all cars now have them somewhere. I've never seen the flaps on the '05. I'll have to peak under there sometime.

Yeah those are what we call Super Truckers

when it's bad weather and they don't feel the need to slow down,it's great when they start yelling at you over the CB to get out of their way and then you see them off the road a few miles ahead....most of the "Super Truckers" are trash haulers and most of those trash companies hire drivers who nobody else will hire because of accidents, tickets etc.
