Went off to the Ozark Mountains to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.

Xterra got a great workout, but highlighted the need for a transmission rebuild, after nearly 200k miles, the Synchronizers are getting _really_ bad.

Steps got a bit bent but are still holding. The only reason I haven't taken them off completely, is I need them to access the cargo carrier. Rock sliders are ordered from White Knuckle Offroad, back in November, should be here in a week or two... Went with the DOM tubes for a bit of added protection, and the full diamond top plates to aid in rummaging around on the roof, and not slipping off the step and bashing my shins.

Now, the Xterra is off getting the transmission removed so I can bring it to the re-builder, https://highgeartransmission.com/ , drop in a new clutch, and rear main seal, and then put it all back together, hopefully in time to get back up to VT before the second week of January!?!?!?!

Decided to have the original rebuilt because I wanted to keep it 100% Original, 1st Gen. and by High Gear, at the urging of the local off-road and drag-racing communities.

$ 1050 carry-in/carry-out for rebuild.

They do amazing work so I'm told.
When we were offloading it they said they have several on the shelf ready to go, or I could wait 3 days for mine back, same cost...


$ 1,100 for local shop to R & R w/ new clutch and surface flywheel & front main seal.

Then I jacked it up another few $K to do the timing belt and water pump (20k early but good insurance), take care of the leaking valve cover gaskets, and spark plugs, oh spark plugs I hate thee! The owner of the shop swore it was only going to be 1.5 hours labor, I'll pay that gladly.

Wasn't planing on it but luckily we spotted the leaky heater core when the transmission was coming out, that's gonna suck the last of my savings!

But it's 16 years old, 200,000 miles, and rust free, so.....
