Since I won't be able to make it to ECXC. A buddy and I will be heading up to LMFT on Saturday July 9th.

He has a ton of beach driving time, but he has never been out in the woods. And I have never been to LMFT and I am unfamiliar, so we will be running as green as we can.

I figured I would throw this out there to see if anyone else wants to get out in the woods, either as a warmup for ECXC or, like me, because they won't be going.

Get the map, it's good. There are plenty of green & greenish trails to keep things interesting. Be safe & have a great day.

Thank you Ernie and Suresh. The new map is going to be a big help. I read that they have done a lot of trail signage too. It seems like it would be tough to get too lost!(famous last words)

It didn't go so well. We made it up fine, we went to the Fish Hatchery road entrance first. I figured we would come across a building or staff or something. Not seeing anything like that there, we went to the cell tower road. Still nothing. My buddy Rich phoned a friend that frequents LMFT on his quad. From him we found that we could donate for our membership and get a map at a power sports dealership in Troy. So we headed there.

We continued down trail 275 to 272 (I think). When we got onto pavement again I felt a rock or somethings stuck to my tire. I got out to find a block of wood with a 3" framing nail sticking out of my front passenger tire. I pulled it out to hear the woosh of air. I took the nail out of the piece of wood and jammed it back into the hole to hold temporarily. We continued to the powersports place to get our maps and memberships. The guys were nice enough to plug my tire too, even though the repair side of the shop was not technically open on Saturday.

We also found out that we need a N.H. State ORV registration for our trucks in addition to our membership to legally drive at LMFT. There are officials that patrol the property to make sure.

By this time it was looking threatening out, and he had the top off of his Bronco, so he wanted to head back home. And with my freshly plugged tire, I was ready to go too.

I'm not sure if this block of wood with a nail was a boobytrap, or if I'm just being suspicious because of the news of similar incidents at Freetown. My advice is to be careful on the trails. There are definitely Unbelievers out there.

wow damn...
the lmft membership I say yes to but the ohv sticker for lmft is news to me.
I will confirm with the NEA but if it is registered in any state you should be fine.
It's the buggies that need the ohv sticker as far as I have been told.
but I will check into it.
too bad you didn't get to wheel but you got home safe.

Bad luck with the tire. I'm hoping it's just a side-effect of the logging activity there. I didn't see anything about another such incident at LMFT...and there's a lot of ATVs on those trails.
I'm with Ernie, the OHV sticker is news & there's no mention of that from LMFT itself. If you don't have the map/membership, get it through their Facebook page.

I'm sure the nail was just bad luck. It is easy to automatically think I was a target.

Not needing the N.H. registration would save $74, or something close to it. I can't remember the exact cost. The guys We talked to sell quads and side-by-sides, so I could see how they could give out that info mistakenly.
