It's the X!

And for anyone who has wondered what the difference is between the Frontier t-case skid and the X's.

I also went ahead and ordered this compressor. I'm sure it's no Viair, but it has decent reviews and I had enough points on my Cabelas VISA to get it for free. It's a portable for now. I'm going to permanently mount and hard wire it at some point. I probably won't get a tank, just a hi/lo pressure switch and an on/off switch, and some basic plumbing.

Not my pic. Just one I found on google.

So I have a parts Xterra in my driveway. For the next couple weeks I’ll be tearing it down. Weekdays and Saturdays I need to work, I’ll be in my driveway after 4:00pm till dark. If it’s a Saturday I don’t work, I’ll be in the driveway between 8-9am and dark. Don’t count on Sundays, unless my wife gives me a pass. This is all dependent on the weather. I don’t care if it’s a little chilly, but I’ll skip that day if it’s raining.

I’m not asking for help.

I wouldn’t mind company.

My focus will be on my project. If you have a project to work on, bring it by. I won’t do it for you, but if you need an occasional extra hand I’d be happy to help.

I’m in East Longmeadow, Mass. Post up what day or days you want to join in here. I’ll PM my address.

My goal is to have the remains towed away April 16th at the latest.

Once the parts X is out of my driveway, I’ll have another round of mod days focusing on building up my X.

Hey John. I might take you up on this. I could use a second pair of hands getting the sliders on. Should be rather quick with two people. Then I could help you out (as much as I'm capable.)

Today I spent a couple hours pulling apart the X. I started inside. I organized the interior panels that had already been pulled by Phong. Alpine front door speakers, touchscreen head unit, window switches and mirror controls came out. I moved outside to the mirrors, taillights, and rear corners. Then into the engine bay. I pulled the intake to get to the coils and spark plugs. They are relatively new, replaced as the X was failing. I also pulled the fan shroud, E-fan and V-belt in preparation for removing the engine accessories and radiator. I turned the accessories by hand. The alternator was a little crunchy, but turned freely, like there is some sand in it. The power steering pump and AC compressor had some resistance, and the water pump turned like a dream. The idler and tensioner pulleys and belt have seen better days

Looking down the lower intake, the 3 passenger cylinders were caked in burnt oil and fuel. The motor failed because of the passenger cat plugging up, the pressure buildup blew past the piston rings. The driver side looked like it was from a completely different vehicle.

Anyone know how much a second gen auto trans weighs?

What does one do with waste coolant?

I'll have to stop by and see all this in person....
Waste coolant can go to advance auto, I know the one in Enfield has tanks in the back for used oil and another for coolant. They used to just open the door and let you dump it.

Perfect. The more the merrier! Let me know when you’re thinking and I’ll PM my address.

Thanks for the tip about Advance Auto. Some sites said put it down the drain. Come to find out it’s southern states. I’m sure they have far fewer EPA rules on things like this than us in the northeast.

Skipping working on the X today. This is the list of what I’d like to pull, for trail/spare parts invintory, parts people have asked for, and parts to sell. Parts with a dash next to them I have already pulled. Question marked items are if they are in good shape and if I don’t run out of time.

-Mirrors
-Headlights
-Taillights
-Rear corners
-Audio
-Window switches
-Coil packs
-Spark plugs
-E fan
-Fan shroud
Tie rods
Control arms?
Brake lines
Evap canister
Vent visors
EZ flares
Sliders
Power steering cooler/lines
Steering wheel
Blower motor
Crank sensor
Cam sensors
Alternator
AC compressor
Power steering pump
Power steering reservoir
Washer tank
Fender liners
Spindles
Condenser
Radiator
Oil pan
Pickup tube
Rear axle
Driveshafts
Leafs
Adjustable shackles
Gas cap
Gas tank
Tank skid
T-case
Steering rack
Hoses?
Transmission?
Trans cooler
Hard trans lines?
Hard brake lines?
Door actuators
HVAC controls

I’m open to suggestions if you can think of more parts I should save. Or if I’m nuts to pull things I have listed.

Mike, I’m guessing that’s in the models with the E-locker. This one is a S model. So no M226.

Work has been pretty crazy lately. Another week or two till it lets up for a while. I’ll start posting up again.

My list.

Xterra to do
-Swap front passenger hub
-Move LCA bumps to frame
-Swap battery
-Swap canister vent
-Adjust SPC’s and re-align
-Move Cb to dash?
-Add E-fan?

Frontier to do
-Swap steering wheel
-Find rear end rattle
-Swap neutral position switch

Probably more I’m not remembering.
