Phong (c3po) and I are going in on some POR15 so we can do skids, bumpers, and possibly frames at some point in the coming weeks. Since the stuff doesn't last very long in the can once the seal is broken (trust me - even with saran wrap touching the surface of the paint, I still had to crack open a 1/8" layer every time I wanted to use my last can, and after five months it was gunk), it's best that we use as much as we can in one go lest it expensively go to waste.

Anyone else interested in throwing in some dough for a share of one of the most bulletproof substances on the planet? :guns: If it's just the two of us I think a quart will satisfy our needs, but a gallon would be nice to have if enough people can make use of it. I'd like to get it ordered next week and get painting before the end of June.

I will have to look, but I may still have an email they sent recently for free shipping. I bought a couple 6-packs last year so have plenty right now, but will try to dig up the code for you

Darn, just checked and the email was from 5/22 and was only good through 5/31. Code was OEM if you want to still give it a try.

Will let you know if I get another email, but they usually come once every few months; either free shipping or a discounted percentage.

A quart is $48, a gallon $160. Depending on what you're doing, we might need two quarts.

My frame and suspension have a decent amount of surface rust, but I'm trying to save money right now,
Two quarts is $96
Divided by 3 people is about $32 pp

How far does 2/3 of a qt really get you?

I used half a quart on two skids and rear bumper, multiple layers. Wasted about a fifth of it due to it curing in the can (hardens into a nice 1/8" layer that needs to be chipped away with the sharpest knife you got).

What's the curing time? I assume we'll have to pick a dry sunny day.

Between two and six hours depending on atmospheric conditions. We'll definitely be doing it outside so the shop doesn't get crowded up, but actually the warmer it gets the longer it takes to cure.

Jordan/MainerX is interested in coating the trunk of another one of his projects, so it's looking like we would be splitting a gallon four ways. Might I suggest also getting a cheapo sprayer from Harbor Freight or something? Then we can spend less time rolling/brushing and more time disassembling/masking/prepping.

Will/Ripper is interested in redoing his bumper if he can get it prepped ahead of time, so it could be a potential five-way split.

At this point I'm saying that we probably don't all need to do it at once, so this could be spread over several weekends. That way anyone who wants to go sooner can, and anyone who needs time can have it.

Let's get the final headcount and order by Wednesday. My weekends are weird so that will need to be settled on. But like I said, worst case we don't all need to do it together, just use it up within a short period of time for minimal waste.

Ok
I might be interested, put me as a maybe, I gotta know the final price first.
Also, do you have to sand/remove all the rust then paint over it? Or can you just paint right on the rust and it converts it?

POR = Paint Over Rust. It actually works best on rusty/seasoned surfaces :) I would advise some prep but it doesn't have to be totally clean.
