The rear sway bar has had several documented issues. Some are related to off road use, and some are instances where the Xterra owner has said they never used the vehicle for "off roading".
It limits your wheel travel (aka - flex).
It might not be an issue with the shocks you have - but Bilstein recommends that you remove it if you are installing the 4600 series or HD shocks. Apparently there are clearance issues with the sway bar when those shocks are used.
It has broken or become disconnected. There have been cases where this has caused an accident.

While your getting adventurous and getting into doing things to your Xterra...

If you were so inclined - 4X4parts.com sells extended length shackles for the rear springs. They're beefy and add about 1.5"-2" of lift - and not much money. If you then (evenly and with the front wheels off the ground) crank up your torsion bar adjusters - you can get about the same amount of lift in the front. This is what is known in the Xterra forum world as a "PML" - Poor Man's Lift 8)
I just checked - lift shackles are $64.95...
I would say your shocks would be fine for this, but someone may disagree.

So for a little time, and about $70, you could have a lifted Xterra to go along with your bigger tires!

Just spray the adjustment nuts & bolts on your torsion bar adjusters once a day or so for at least a few days. It wouldn't hurt to spray your stock shackles while you were at it.

I have been working a lot of hours, but if you think you need help, or you don't feel comfortable doing it - work is starting to slow down a bit for me. We could schedule a day and I will give you a hand

Holy cow. Very generous of you to offer to assist. Thing is I'm not too mechanical and I'd feel bad about that. I just have basic tools but I would love to learn. I'll look into the process (See if I have the tools... and the cookies to try it) and think about this. The additional clearance would be key. Thanks for your being willing to help a stranger! Curious what area are you in, in NH? I'm north of Concord about 15 mins.

Hey now!!
You found me eh? Hehe...

Have you ever checked out exploringnh.com? There's a lot of people in your neighborhood on there and they go out and wheel the C6's quite a bit. Not all the runs are stocker friendly, but they'll let you know if they are or not right up front.

Don't feel bad about not being a certified mechanic. I'm not either, but my Dad was and so I was lucky enough to learn some things. We all learn things from one another here and everyone has varying degrees of ability/knowledge.

Doing a PML is pretty easy. Spraying nuts and bolts with PB Blaster (or equivalent) ahead of time helps a lot though - since we live in the rust belt

I have PB Blaster. Needed it to remove the sway bar too. Things were stubborn.
Got 'em though!

I removed both the front and rear sway bar. The rear on purpose, the front by accident. At some point when I was wheeling one of the bolts snapped off the front, then sure enough the other side did. Most keep the front though just from a safety and handling standpoint, but to be honest I can't tell the difference. Get a little bit more flex from the front now. It's not for everybody though but could be something to consider when the truck becomes your toy. Either that or SAS :guns:

The rear one does take a little getting used to. I never drove too wild though so I'll be okay with it from what I can tell. Don't notice it much now really.

My CB order came in today, a Cobra 19 DX IV.

Now to find the right place to hook it up, power wise. I do not want to go through the firewall. Any suggestions are welcomed. I'm going to mount it in the pocket ahead of the auto shift lever below the hazard button.

Still waiting on the low end antenna to arrive, a Pro Comm JBC101. I'm hoping that it will at least get me started. It's a magnetic mount so I'll just stick it to the roof for now when I want to use it. If it stinks I won't feel bad about the $10 for it.

I have dreams of real bumpers w/a tire carrier so I'll address a better antenna later.

I have my CB in the same place too, used velcro so it can be removed easily. When I had the magnet mount antenna, had routed the wire under the passenger seat & out between the rear door & body. So, when I needed it just had to stick the antenna on the roof & shut the rear door. Worked well until I got tired of branches knocking it off the roof. Now have a Firestick antenna mounted near the rear hatch.

I won that Firestick at last years B2S raffle.

Whoa, same idea -velcro for easy removal... I'm sure my antenna will be dragged a bit then too.

Congrats on the Firestick. One day I hope to have one mounted on the future rear bumper tire carrier.
