Micah witnessed the use of the stock jack getting me off a stump I was stuck on.

Was that stock jacket or a straight jacket? :D
I didn?t mean to say that a stock Jack is useless  , I still carry mine. But I want to be able to change a tire, right?

Image hint, hint.

If I knew that I could not change a flat on my truck and went wheeling. Or drove it, in a non- emergency situation, with my beautiful family in tow and there was a possibility that we could get stranded, well I would be on a whole new kind of list, wouldn?t you agree? :D

How long have you been doing this sport? You're registed back to Feb, 04 on XF. That tells me at least 2 years. How long did it take you to get all the equipment you have? I've been doing this for 8 months. Get off my back.

A working jack? Yea, yours worked oh so well in the field as well.

Ask everyone else that has bigger than stock tires how their hi-lifts work and I think you'll find out most people don't even have them. So your list must be very long because most people have big tires and no lift, just stock jacks. I'll say it again, get off my back.

Well, I want to stay out of this one, but just cannot. On the many trail rides I have been on, when someone is in need of a HiLift, it is the one situation where everyone stands around and says nothing. People are usually more than willing to help, but when it comes to getting out the HiLift...silence.

Most people's HiLifts are in a situation that is a PITA to get off the truck. It's too much of a hassle, so everyone hopes someone else will chime in first.

While they are a great tool when you need it, they are extremely dangerous. If it is your jack, you feel obligated to assist in a situation that is more than likely to occur in some sort of damage...hopefully, without bodily injury, but that is never out of the question.

The lifts are not very reliable, suseptiple to rust, they often don't work correctly. Even if well maintianed, the time when you need them, funky things happen.

If the HiLift is the only option, it's the only tool. If something else will work, most everyone will try that first.

I have never seen so many grown men run fast as when someone is driving off a HiLift jack.

I grew up on a farm and at about 14 I had one slam me in the face...a lesson I have yet to forget. I still have a scar.

Like synthetic winch line, an air bag may be well worth the investment and leave the HiLift on the truck as an offroading badge. Like it is, most of the time.

I have a Hi Lift now and hopefully I'll never have to use it,but I have it if I need it,I think it has to be safer than using a stock jack with pieces of 3x4 chunks of wood under it.It sucks if you end up with a flat in any situation. If I was out wheeling and somebody needed to use my jack,I would let them use it.Any time I've gone out wheeling it's always been "Nobody gets left behind" and if someone needs a hand you try to help out the best you can, hopefully in a safe manner so no one gets hurt.

Yes I agree they can be very dangerous. Last year I saw someone go under their truck to check their steering for damage while it was up on a high-lift, I almost had a heart attack. I said that I didn?t think it was a good idea but was ignored. Nothing bad happened so the guy will, most likely, keep doing it.

When I ?chimed in? and we used my hi-lift to lift Jeff?s truck it would not let us lower the truck back down without the help of a screwdriver to release one of the pins.

You have to grease it up once in a while Tom, duh.

One time I forgot to take it off the roof before going to the car wash after wheeling. One of the rags got caught up in it and it ripped the roof rack off the truck before they had time to stop the line. It had to be untangled before they finally got my truck out. I was real popular that day.

Unless you have OBA I think you?re supposed to fill that bag using your exhaust, man that would take forever, someone would volunteer their hi-lift before you finished. I use a floor Jack and Jack stands at home but in the woods I don?t think you can beat a hi-lift.

Actually, those bags fill up in minutes with the exhaust. Somewhere there is a video of it.

Amazingly, it is fast. Faster than most people can get their HiLift off their roof rack.

I have a fear of Hi-Lifts.

The bag has vents on it to release the exhaust so as long as the engine is on bag will stay inflated.

Here are the specs of a similiar model. This one is $50 cheaper.
  • 4 ton lifting capacity.
  • Lifts up to 30" above the ground.
  • Side curtains for puncture prevention.
  • Unique triangular feet for better grip.
  • Can be used with onboard air.
  • Collapses flat for easy storage.
  • Heavy-duty storage bag and gloves.
  • Protective mat included.
  • Puncture repair kit, two filler tubes.
  • Laminated operating instructions.
  • Requires 2" clearance under vehicle to operate.
