OK, as Mike has posted in the OP one of our members (Mike, “Mixxali4”) has received permission for a few of us to wheel the proving grounds of Draken Offroad in Garrattsville, NY ( near Oneonta) on April 6th. I was going to try and make the run in Freetown but, well, this seems more to my liking.
This is a unique opportunity to run your truck on some very challenging trails located on private land in beautiful upstate New York. The trails are not that rocky but slick with a lot of tree roots that are hard to grip. Rain makes it much worse. Good tires are the priority. If you’ve never wheeled this might not be the best trails to start with. However if you feel up to the challenge you would be welcomed to join the group.
We plan the meet at the Draken Offroad shop, 9am, Saturday morning (no we are not running these trails at night) April 6th. This is private land so you have to give us a heads up and sign two waivers (NEXterra & Draken) if you want to join us.

Thanks, Tom. I just updated the OP with that information.

Hi Guys,
Is this ride something suitable for a first-timer, being at night and all?

^^ Chris you should be fine they said the trails are fairly easy at the freetown/tauton run. If your rig is stock take off your step rails and mud flaps.

Im in for a event shirt size Xl .

The trails themselves are perfect for a first-timer. Given that it gets lighter later every day, it might not even be that dark during our run. The trails have been pre-run by not-insanely-built trucks and no difficulties were noted (other than a few excessively deep puddles) - do like SE-Rooney says, and we'll make sure to sandwich you between guys who can help you out.

PS, Roons - we have a separate shirt thread: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=6891

You'll be fine, Chris. We'll help you through the trails. If you don't feel comfortable, but want to join us still, I'm sure there will be plenty of empty seats available.

This looks like so much fun, think I'll do it!

I don't have step rails, so that's no problem.
No mud flaps, but do I need to take off the plastic thing in front of the rear tire? Is that what you're talking about?

I'd recommend it (I think that thing's officially a wind deflector, labeled something like that on Jerseyparts). I've actually never seen how they attach but I'm guessing just a few plastic pop rivets and maybe a philips screw. Worst case, we can help you take it off at McDonald's before we go.

Chris, what year is your truck? I know on the second gens on the off road model, they added on a "rock guard", which sits in front of both rear tires. You can see it a bit here in this picture:

That little piece shouldn't be a problem. The mudflaps behind the tires - that's what you want to take off.

Hi Mike,
Mine is a 2010 base model. It does have those "rock guards" in front of the rear wheels, but not the big mud flaps behind the wheels. I'll poke my head under this weekend and see how they come off, better safe than sorry.

Is there any special gear I need to bring along? Do you guys use CB's or Family-Band walkie-talkies on the rides?

For these particular trails, you don't need anything crazy, however, you should always have a good tow strap and recovery point(s) somewhere on the truck. If you have the tow hitch, I suggest investing in one of these: D-Ring Receiver Hitch. There are other brands, but they all do the same thing. They're quick and easy to put in and take out when not in use.

As for radios, most of us have CB's, but you'll get by without one for now.
