Some of you know that my winch stopped working last weekend at Brookridge - would spool out but not it. After speaking to Engo & reversing the wires, it did exactly the opposite - indicating a bad solenoid (the Engo E9000S has two solenoids).

Emailed with & then spoke with Joel at Engo who was very helpful. Ended up ordering a replacement solenoid control assembly (the full box & wires) for $60+shipping. Comes with a 1year warranty. Would have been cheaper to just replace the faulty solenoid but with my legendary wiring skills, decided a new assembly was safer. I’m impressed with how fast Joel/Engo got back to me.....wasn’t expecting much but pleasantly surprised.

Unrelatedly, what I thought was tire rubbing on my fenders flares actually turned out to be tire rubbing on the front bumper on full flex. Removed the corners from the front bumper & had no rubbing over the weekend. Here’s how it looks without the front bumper corners.

Don’t like the look as much but don’t hate it enough yet to justify spending $$s on new fender flares.

How does your 4 door handle, compaired to your last one? Do you like the lift vs the old one? Also, really feeling those wheels. Jeep is Looking good man.

Thanks Nick. The wheels are nice, the simulated beadlock ring has taken the bulk of the beating but the rest of the wheel hasn’t been scratched much yet.

The extra doors & space makes D2D driving easier & the lift is leagues better than my old spacer setup. A lot more flex that I used to have.

What I don’t like as much is the transition from the manual to automatic. With the auto I have to use the brakes way more than with the stick, even though they both have the Rubicon 4:1 gears. I miss the 1st gear on the stick & the additional crawl control that provides.

On the whole for the daily driver/kid mobile + wheeling rig, it’s been great.

Re: winch.
I've always been told that it should be wired directly to the top terminals of the battery.

When that a I first wired mine to the side terminals and when it could not recover my truck, only spool unloaded, I was informed I needed to wire them to the top (I can detail the reason if you want).

I have never heard of using a cutoff switch in winch wiring because of fire before this and agree that no fuse is used.

I’ve heard of the switch in case the solenoid fails “on” and you need it to stop the winch but not for fire. What’s on fire, the winch…the battery?

Doesn’t a winch solenoid fail “off”?

Probably over thinking it... yea, was thinking of a fire either at the winch or the wires going to it. Then again, if the switch was under the hood, the fire might prevent the hood from being opened & getting to the switch. Got to thinking about it since the winch is probably the only thing that doesn’t have some sort of a fuse.

I’m most likely just going to wire directly to the battery & be careful how I route the wires (like it is now). The chances of a winch catching fire is, by all accounts, extremely rare.

If it makes you feel any better, I’m not sure of a vehicle that has a fuse to the starter. Usually there is just a big fat wire coming right from the battery. The two have a similar setup too. A high draw motor with low gearing, and control wiring to a solenoid. It would be serious trouble if you could reverse the rotation of a starter tho.

Maybe some heat resistant split loom, or go even heavier duty from summit.Image

Finally added the first sticker I’ve ever added voluntarily to any of my vehicles. It should be at ~500hp now… :-)

Just installed a Metalcloak tierod, draglink & flipped the steering stabilizer up. Much beefier than the stock component. Scratched up the pretty finish tightening up the jam nuts.

Still hunting done a front end clunk from before the change, but other than that all good. Next step is to change the trackbar bolt in case the bolt hole has wallowed out from the stock bolt.

Nice, Suresh, but I'm sure that thing will have plenty more scratches after your next wheeling trip. :D

Does that help prevent the death wobble?

Death wobble from what I understand can be from many thing trackbar not being torqued, bad end links, bad ball joints, even out of balance wheel. Key is to find out what’s causing it as it can be tricky to pinpoint.
I wasn’t suffering from it thankfully because it’s truly a scary experience, specially when you’re not expecting it.

If you haven't purchased upgraded bolts yet, check out Allen's Fasteners :
https://www.allensfasteners.com/

I purchased all my 9/16" fine thread F911 / L9 bolts from them along with hardened washers and Grade C lock nuts. They have a great selection of all grades of hardware.

Thanks Jeff. This kit from Northridge just arrived today - https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/hard ... rdware-kit.

I was just going to replacing the frame side trackbar bolt (edit: will do both sides, seems silly not to). Should I replace the front lower control arm bolts as well or are the stock ones still ok there? Some forum posts indicate the same wallowing of the bolt hole issue might exist for control arms as well.
