Im generally looking at two winches...

WARN 86245 VR8000 8,000 lb Winch

or

Smittybilt 97281 XRC Black Winch

I would rather spend the money on the Warn if the overall opinion is that it is worth it. But if i can buy the XRC and get a synthetic rope for the same cost that i would be more interested if the reliability is decent...

If anyone has any suggestions as to another model/brand i am open to suggestions.

IMHO a WARN is the only winch. Every time I have seen other brands fail I'm glad I spent the extra money.

I have a Warn and used it many times. From recoveries to pulling out trees and bushes and I've had no issues so far. And I've had my winch since about 2003.

Have you considered a superwinch? They are a connecticut company that stands behind their products and they are great to deal with. You can even buy a superwinch with a sythetic line on it. Elias 4wd center in townsend,ma stocks them. You can check them out at www.elias4wdcenter.com.

I've bought from Elias in the past. Cool place. Just don't blink or you'll pass right by it. It's out in the middle of nowhere and has no indication of be a store at all..

Who sells the WARN brand winch? I would Google, but I figured you guys would be partial to certain dealers.

Romeo, I recommend Warn, Mile Marker, or Superwinch. With winches, you get what you pay for. Save the cash for a better winch and you will be able to rely on it when you really need it.

I run the Warn XD9000i with Viking synthetic line and it kick ass!

That is a good winch. Make sure you purchase a snatch block with that setup so you double the pulling strength of the Warn in a tight situation.
