So as most of you know, I distroy alternators for the fun of it, my 3rd one finally sh!t the bed after bringing it back from it's muddy grave one too many times. We rip it out (after dealing with that darn plug) and hit up autozone for my lifetime warrantee. (very nice to have)

Talking to the guy I ask him if he's also got a 1997 quest in stock, one, only one in the area!

It's mine! He gives me the credit of the xterra alt, and puts it on the quest. A 30 dollar gift card for the difference, (i know, bigger, puts out 30amps more, but cheaper...) and I'm out the door.

Lots if swearing and a split knuckle later, I got this beautiful hunk-o-junk up there.

It just makes everything brighter, and things don't flicker when the bass hits. Oooh Nissan ya should have been nicer to us in the first place.

Now any one have a better idea on how to keep the mud from killing this one?

Congratulations on the upgrade.
As for how to keep it working:

1) make sure that the wheel well skirts are on and locked in place.. that keeps much of the splashing out of the engine bay.
2) Stay out of the deep mud.

Haha thanks mike, yeah I need to learn my lesson.

As for the skirt, thats prob the biggest problem. The truck never came with one on the driver side. Ill be hitting up the local J yard and see if they finally have a gen one in the lot. Anyone know if the gen 1 skirt will fit on a gen 1.5? I know they have a 2000 on the lot.

Tom (Bklyn.X) knows of an online shop that makes them. Check with him.. I am likely going to buy some soon too as I don't want to put my own alternator at risk

I'm sure there's a write up somewhere on here, but does this mod use the same length belt?

Side note: I may still have my stock fender/frame skirts around somewhere, they don't do a whole lot with a 3" BL.

Hey if you want to part with them I'm interested!

For the belt, I got the stock one to fit bit it was a pita. Prob why most ppl buzz a little off the alternator. I was told to pick up a .5" longer belt (5 channel) and that would save a lot of headaches. If you use the stock belt and don't shave your alt. the best way to put it on would be to heat it up then using small screwdrivers, push it on like you would a bike tire.

For the belt fitment, could you just change the pulley from the quest alt. to the xterra alt.?

You might be able to, but I didnt look that deep at it. The housing is slightly bigger as well. (more coil wrapps)
