Long overdue update. Bought a 2012 Yamaha FZ6R two weeks ago. Been out riding, put on just under 300 miles since I got it. Got all my gear too. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Wow! That's a beauty. Looks like a lot of bike for a first. Be careful.

not sure what made me think of this thread, especially since I haven't been on the forums in a few years, but here's an "update"

so that FZR I posted a few years back ended up being a bust, more work and money than I wanted to spend so I sold it on Craigslist. last spring I went through the MSF course and got my license. I spent the past year ripping around on a rebel 250 and learned a ton about general motorcycle wrenching (not to mention carb tuning). I have a short commute (no highways) and this bike was perfect for learning good habits and gaining experience...had a blast chopping it up into a 'bobber' and making it a bit of a spectacle

but damn was it slow

today, I picked up my 2015 Yamaha Bolt :o

hope everyone is well

Nice to hear from you Brian, hope all is well. I'd like to see pictures of both bikes if you have any.

2001 rebel 250...bobbed the rear fender, bullet turn signals, removed front fender, drilled out exhaust and wrapped it, made a sheet metal and canvas seat, side mount plate bracket...fun little bike but got boring just riding around locally

2015 bolt xv950cfr, bought it brand new, 0 miles

would love to actually ride it, been raining for a week straight

definitely loving it so far...besides the obvious power difference, it's great to have a "big boy bike"...hydraulic rear brake, belt drive, digital multi function instrument, and fuel injection :P

also in the garage is an '82 xv920 virago that I bought as a parts bike for $100 even though all it really needs is a tank, seat, and some electrical work...thinking about stripping it down and making a scrambler / bobber out of it

Tom, do you ride out this way at all? still have that Harley I remember seeing in your Brooklyn garage ?

Yeah, I still have it and ride once in a while. I haven't even started it yet this year and last year rode very little due to my collar bone brake.
We should get a "Nexterra Ride" together this year. Maybe up to Scotts for an over night run...

Hopefully we'll.
