 Post subject: MOAB 2009
PostPosted: Mon Apr 21, 2008 7:50 pm
A while back, Gene mentioned trying to get a club run to MOAB in 2009.

I'm trying to plan 2009 and 2010 summer vacations (well, Gone MOAB
is actually in May, but it'll be so pricey it'll have to serve as me and Chris'
major vacation of the summer) and I can flip flop MOAB and our other
plan depending on when the club could decide and pull together.

It's going to take a lot of planning, $$$, and time off...but was wondering
if Gene and everyone has thought of it since.

We're definitely going in 2009 or 2010 reguardless, but was hoping the club
could do it together.

Is the plan still on?

I'd love to do that.

Does 2010 sound better to everyone for $$ and planning-wise?

When does Steph finish school? (hi steph!) 2010 sounds so far away, but it's not. This summer's already planned and spent (offroading in MO and IN) and 2009's getting planned.

I just think it's something we need to get rolling now seeing as it takes a lot of time and money to go and people have to plan way ahead for that.

I'm definitely in for 2010.

Well the good thing is that we'd have plenty of time to save up for a trip like this..

Anyone have a CDL?

Rent one of those trucks that delivers vehicles to dealerships. Everyone splits the gas for it. :)

I'd be interested. It might be cheaper to rent a truck, have Greg drive, and haul all of our trucks out there. The added benefit would be that major breakdowns would not be a problem. Just winch it on the truck and haul it home.

WOW! That would be a great idea. Except how do WE get there? Plane?
Train? Rent a tour bus? (Holy COW, that would be cool!) We do have
plenty of time to plan and save...

....I honestly think that gas is going to go down after the Gov't is done
using it as a political tool. But in case it doesn't, then we really should
think of alternative means than driving there. I wonder if Amtrac has
a car carrier/people carrier deal from somewhere we could all meet
that runs to Moab. I can check.

If the truck idea is possible I would be more than happy to drive it.I don't even have a clue how much it would cost to rent one,but I can check in to it.

We would also have to remember when planning the trip: DOT rules for hours of driving and height/weight etc. I believe you can fit 8 or 9 trucks on one trailer I'll do some investigating and reply back.
