Post subject:  Window Question

Just making sure I read this right, because I have never had to do it on any of my previous vehicles, has anyone else lubricated the window guides/runner/rails whatever you want to call them. What did you use and did you spray the entire area? What about the regulator? Thanks in advance!

Spray silicone works great on the window runs / gaskets.
Image
any brand is fine.
spray the runs and then run the window up and down to pull the silicone down it to the door.
Then hit it one last time, then it should be fine.

you can also spray the door weather seals it Keeps them soft and they don't stick as much when every thing starts freezing.

you could WD it,
but I try and stay away from oil based sprays because they may swell the rubber.

The regulator if... it needs to be lubed ,can be lubed with a light grease.

Thanks. My windows are getting bad and the driver's side rear only goes up and down 3-4 inches.

I had window issues as well when I first picked up my '02 X a few months ago. The window would drag when I was trying to raise it up. I thought it might have been a faulty switch or regulator.

A member here suggested a silicone spray inside the window track. So I did ALL my windows. They now work fine.

The window only moves about 2" and doesn't close all the way. Great, just in time for winter. haha Any ideas? Regulator? Motor? They don't give you much room to work in there, that's for sure. I sprayed my other windows, they're pretty slow moving.

Oh man thats sucks :(
It only comes up 2" out of the door?
or 2" from the top?
Can you grab the window and pull it up while pressing the button?

2" from the top. I have Ventvisors so, the only thing coming in is cold air. I tried pulling it up by hand and pressing the button, didn't work.

Do you have the stick on vent visors or the ones that go into the window track?
Some times the ones in the track will bind the glass.
you can chek that.

Does the window go up fine untill the final 2"?
if not, it still could be a weak motor.
and you already lubed the run.
But check at the visors are not stopping the glass when it gets to it.

I have the stick on visors. The window goes from 2" open to 5" open.

Ok, so much for that Idea. :(

if you assit it will it move full travel?
Just trying to determine if the run is binding the window or if the motor or regulator are failing.

I haven;t incountered your perticular concern to say thats it or not.
without seeing it myself if you can unblot the glass see if it will travel up and down freely.

Nope, even with assistance..the window won't move any further, in either direction.

Sounds like the regulator is shot.
it's binding up inside the mech.
pull the regulator and make sure the window moves freely in the runs.
by itself if it does replace the regulator also make sure the motor runs freely
by itself.
the motor may have over heated from the added resistance of the window binding.

hope this helps
