I'm thinking of purchasing a 2015 Xterra . I have a 2002 and would like to for one to use the crossbars from the roof rack on the new roof rack ...is that possible? and should I salvage anything else? Thanks SCUNGE PS Anyone know how important it is to have a skidplate on Long Island most of my off the road use will be on the beach but in the winter plenty of high ice, chunks of it for that matter again thanks.

I'm fairly sure the crossbars are not interchangeable between gens. I think the racks have did diameter rails. Could be wrong.

If your offroading is limited to the beach, I wouldn't spend any money on skid plates.

The ice last winter was high ad hard for most of the season and plenty of it. With my 2002 I just broke and rode over it having a skid plate on my 2002 XE. The Pro 4X is the only model with the skid plates but for me too $$$$$. Anyway thanks all

When I bought my 2012 Xterra, it came with no roof rack cross members. Looked on-line, way a lot of money. So I went to the gently used, retired vehicle yard. All they had were 1st generation trucks. But I took the chance, took two off and brought them home for $5 a piece. Well, they were too long!! Took two T27 bolts out , cut 1 7/8" off the tube, redrilled the holes for the bolts, fits perfect.

Nice work! I would have thought that the second gen bars would have been wider than the first gen. Interesting.
