Post subject:  GOBI ladder group buy

Most of you have already seen this over at thenewx, but right now, there's a group buy going on for GOBI ladders. If we can get 3 more people, it's about $70 off of their list price (which includes shipping, currently, we're saving about $40). I decided to get in on it as I keep my spare on the roof and it would make it a little easier to toss it up there as well as anything else I keep on my roof.

Here are a couple pics:

I think I may have posted my feelings on this ladder in the past. I don?t mean to put down any mods that any one makes to their truck.

That said, IMHO I think it might be almost the same distance from the top of the bumper to the roof and top of the bumper to the ground especially if you have any kind of lift. When you?re putting a tire on the roof that first step is the hardest part. Once you?re standing on the back bumper with the tire in your hand you don?t need to be any higher. Plus would that skinny ladder be able to hold the weight of my fat ass plus a full size inflated spare? I doubt it.

It looks cool if that?s the objective; personally I don?t see the point or think it?s worth the large expense. Just my 1 1/2 cents.

Origionally, that was my feelings, too. It does give you something to grab on to and helps you climb up onto the bumper(not to mention it looks cool) and I'm a compulsive buyer, so that's my reasoning. I usually have to climb up on the roof in order to get the tire secured into the yak rack, so that's an added benefit, too. I definately agree with what you're saying about the skinny ladder, but I jumped on one that another guy has on his X and it was suprisingly strong....and did I mention it looks cool ? 8)

You could build that from probably $25-30 worth of steel and a couple hours...
