 Post subject: Tires and rims
PostPosted: Wed Sep 12, 2007 3:52 pm
Hey all, Sorry I haven't been active. Busy with the Wife, new job and Racing...

Anyway, I am looking for advice. I need new tires. I want to get new rims. The rims would be for summer and I would use the stock rims for winter.

Is this the best plan? Is there a tire that is Good enough with the stock rims? How big can i go? I do some offroading in the summer and I want a go anywhere tire for winter.

The summers will be used for long rides trailering my bike to the races and to add style points to the ride. When I would go offroading I would put the "winter" tires on.

Anyone have any suggestions?

i just bought the trxus mt's and i love them.. my other choice would've been cooper stt's but the trxus were much better priced.

i've heard the 2nd gens can squeez 33's without any major modification? don't quote me on that though

Hey man, good to see you again.

Yes, you can fit 33" on stock 05+.

Are you looking at keeping off road tires with stock rims and road tires with new rims? or what combination are you looking to make?

Yep, stock rims with Mud and snows and new rims with a good long lasting tire. (I am towing my trailer about every month).

Suggestions?

How about Bridgestone Revos?

33 huh? Sweet!

Yup 33s will fit with no problems

I hear good things about the Revos

I went with BFG A/T KOs and they are awesome. They wear well on the pavement and they did great at EXCX this year.

I got mine from VT Tire on Williston rd. but i think Costco is selling them now as well.

Depending on the sales guy at Costco they may not let you bump up to a bigger tire for some Costco reason.

How are the KO's in the snow? I hear once the treads lose the "sharpness" they don't do as well.

How is the road noise? How many miles do you think they are good for?

The stock trails are at 20k and I don't think I can get another 10 out of them.

do not get the revos... i had them on my truck.. after 25,000 miles they were like slicks... they're rated for 50 and they would not give me anything for the warranty..

I know of people who have only gotten 17,000 out of their revos as well... tho they are nice tires... for the price and mileage you might as well go for a m/t

I think I have around 15,000 miles on them and they have held up very well. I rotate every other oil change to get the best wear possible.

As for winter driving I think they do very well. They clear snow from the tread well.

The best winter tire on the market is the Hoka by nokia but its a soft compound tire and does not wear well in the summer.

I don't get too much road noise with them like I hear from some M/Ts out there on the road.

hope this helps a little

the only bad thing i've heard about the KO's is that they're horrible in certain types of mud(they get packed up and become slicks) and that they have fairly weak sidewalls

dan(find4path) tore a huge gash in the sidewall of his KO's but who knows how he managed that one

OK so 33's fit. Would they mess up the speedo?

Also what about the tire pressure sensors? Anything special I need to know there or do any tires just mount right up?

Won't mess it up, but just be aware it will be reading slower than actual speed due to the larger tires cover more ground per revolution.

As long as you are not changing the wheels, TPMS should not be affected.

No problems with the Maxxis Bighorns by the way. Great in mud, snow, leaves, rocks. Good all around tire for pretty cheap
