I was wonder if it's worth it to swap out my diff in my 1st gen x to a 2nd gen diff with lockers and for disc brakes. I know I can do a conversion and get a locker, but lockers are pricy when I can pick up a diff for less that 600$ that has one and disc breaks. The downfall I see is that the 1st gens have a better lsd that the newer x's do. Has anyone done this conversion before and is it worth it? Just out of curiosity.

I suppose you're talking about the rear diff. 1st gen ones are supposed to be stronger.

Nick - I've not heard of anyone replacing a 1st gen diff with a 2nd gen. And we so have folks with seriously modified 1st gens.
Or are you talking about replacing the whole rear axle? Haven't heard of that either.

The only gears u ever need to upgrade IMO are in your tcase (as long as u runnin 33" tires or less). For anything larger u will need to upgrade diff gears and it prob cheaper to look for those 5:13's but forget out of what vehicle.
Suspension Armor Tires Accessories
Is the order usually, 4th time!

Not sure what gears are in first gens but the stock gears in an e locked second gen are 3.36(auto) and 3.69(6 speed), 4.10 and 4.56 are available. Axles are basically a dana 44. The e brake on them are high maintenance and don't usually last very long.
