We're interested in lifting the truck, and the PML looks like a decent height to start at. I was talking to my friend who lives in the Toyota world, and he has heard bad stories about the shackle/TB lift.

Are there reliability issues when doing this? What other options are there? I'm hesitant to do the AAL as it'll probably stiffen the rear too much.

I've had my PML from March this year. No issues so far. We left ~1/4" between the bumpstop & the UCA for articulation & to be able to do an anlignment. As long as you don't crank it up too hight, you should be ok.

You may also want to consider disconnecting/removing the rear sway bar as well... removed mine just before the PML & noticed no difference.

Go for the PML, it's cheap & relatively easy to do if the bolts aren't too rust welded. And if you don't like it, you can still go back to the stock shackles.

I ran with a PML for many years. No problem.

Thanks Suresh. Your truck is the one that convinced us to look into it, after we parked behind you on the last stop before heading home saturday. Any suggestions on manufacturer of shackles?

:? What kind of stories? I've never heard of any with an Xterra.

I've never heard of anyone having any problems with a PML, whether it was done with shackles or AAL's in the rear. Stormy (one of the pioneers of this club) had helped me with my PML years ago on my '02, and I never had any issues. It gave the truck a better stance, a little more ride height, and I was able to fit 275/70/16's.

I can't really answer that, can't remember any details. Maybe people were using shackle's made with poor material or machining/welding.
