Trying to keep it short: Had clutch and flywheel replaced by a reputable shop (72,000 miles, was stock Nissan clutch /flywheel, I tow frequently). Within 10 miles got engine warning light, P0011 and P0012 codes, (Both VCT solenoids). Oil and filter are changed religiously. Prior to clutch starting to fail I had returned from a ~2,000 mile vacation, mostly highway miles at ~50-80 mph. My last gas fill up was on a bordering on empty tank of gas. Otherwise nothing weird during the vacation driving. Oil was clear brown and in range on dipstick. The tech reset the codes twice and my next steps are flush and oil change, then checking both VCTs for proper function. I am suspecting wrong oil was put in, or during clutch/flywheel change, something simple during the procedure is causing bad signal to VCTs. :freak:

Anyone else run into this?

I have never seen these codes come up together other than a stretched timing chain.
where the VTC actuators can not advance the cams enough for the called for deg. adv.

or if the chain has skipped a tooth causing the same condition to occur.
if the engine was rotated backwards during the repair
this may or may not have occurred.

sorry for all the good news :(
best is to check the timing marks and the tensioner and chain conditions.

hope it is not this and is something much simpler

Thanks. Rats! That was what the tech was thinking because of both errors coming up. He is going to persue the easiest fixes first (fingers crossed). I thought the tensioner problem was a recall on earlier models?

The problem was solved. The technician found that they put the flywheel on incorrectly when they did the clutch job. Said that there were six possible positions that it could be put on and only one correct one. Said that that it was buried in a Nissan manual and that the aftermarket flywheel/clutch kit did not have it mentioned in the directions. While it was embarrassing for them and no charge to me aside that I lost the use of my car for a day, I appreciated their honesty as a less reputable tech may have swept it under the rug and BS'ed me on the repair.

Glad it was solved. Rare to find a shop that admits their mistake & makes things right. Good for them.

Man glad that's all it was even though it was a tough job to correct.

How does the flywheel orientation relate to the VTC? :|

Is it using the flywheel as the crank position?
