2003 xterra, 220k , currently on 31's original torsion bars, factory leafs, not my DD ( audi is my DD)
Looking to do a suspension lift, Have an offroad rear and front bumpers.
Looking to to do moderate off road eventually and carry gear to camp with the family.

Ideally do the shocks, leafs and torsion bars etc all at once but $$ is short.

Can I replace the bilstien 4600's fronr and rear ( nistecs sells 5100s Front and rear, not sure worth it, is it???)

Then later replace the leaf packs ( OME or Alcan? anyother?) Rear will be higher after this correct?

Then torsion bar etc and finally get the front ~ 2"lift?

or Do I need to replace them all at once. Like Nisstec said when I called them

Also will I need to replace anything else? like UCAs etc ( not my daily driver, more a winter/ ski/ camp about 5k miles a year max)

Thank you for any advice.

If your stock suspension is in decent shape you can do a PML. Although at 220k in the NE salt belt, who knows.

Shackles for the rear & crank up the torsion bars in the front. Thats what I had in my first gen. Cheap but works great.

Then you’ll have some $ left over for the shocks.

so...pml lift is apossibility.
what is the max lift i could do with 4600?

Could I do a AAL, up grade the torsion bars and get a 1.5-1.75"lift? and not have to upgrade the UCAs?
is the ride "decent with a pml?

AAL is interesting as I do towing a lot and they supposedly help with load vs just doing shackles

I don’t know much about towing...I assume, AALs will be better for that.

I was just thinking about this post this morning( with the recent cold the shocks are more annoying)
Plan to use the Xterr for:
-Ccar camping in state parks during summer/ fall with family say 5-6 x (300 miles RT on highway)
-Mild to moderate off roading locally with Nexterra ( MA, NH, VT) say 1x month)
- Towa 5x8 trailer with 2 dirtbikes and gear to PA from MA and to local spots in MA/ new england
- Also I drive this 1-2x every two weeks to work ( audi is my DD)

I dont want to over build the suspension for what i want to do but i also dont want to underbuild it ( say 1-1.5"body lift with a PML) as I 'd like to have smoothish ride for the highway hauls and by underbuild it, ive "heard" that a PML ist not ideal for long term health of UCAs ball joints, even not a great ride on the slab.)

Currently have a steel rear tire carrier and have off road skid plates not installed yet, riding on 31's

Not sure I want to pout in 1400$ in suspension for 2003. I might be better selling and looking for a gen 2 stock with less miles and build it up slowly on a nicer platform?

I'd appreciate any insight, Love my X but..... decisions
