Why without a tire carrier? I don't understand the reasoning of it...I've already got a rear recovery point with the hitch.

oops, read it wrong. well a winch isnt all that necessary at first. i will admit i have one, just havent installed it yet. but most situations i have been stuck in just need a quick tug from another truck. never really needed a winch yet.

Then you have not really been wheeling yet! The winch is probably the best tool to get you home. It has gotten me home, even in my driveway a few times.

that can be argued either way. buying something like coilovers or skids to make his truck more capable could also get him home.

like someone else said, usually someone in the group already has one.

not to mention it adds a good amount of weight to the nose(syn rope would help). im interested in how my truck is going to handle/mpg changes after i put it in since i do so many miles in the truck

Well, then I suggest putting all your cash towards debt.

4) Payoff a nice chunk of debt.

At first I was going to say defintely this one. BUT, before I say that, let me ask you this. Have you received your tax return yet? Do you already have that planned for something else? Could that pay off the debt? If it can, then go ahead and buy something for the truck. If not, then you may want to consider paying off your debt first.

I've already put my tax return towards my debt.

And I'm going to do the same with this. I've gotta get out of debt more than I need to do something for my truck.

Personally, as as a former estate / financial planner, here's the order of payments that I always gave my clients:

Pay:
1) Yourself: Put a good percentage in savings
2) Yourself: Reward yourself in some way. Don't go crazy and blow extra funds carelessly, but at the same time, there comes a point where you want to see and feel something that comes from any unexpected windfall or extra income.
3) Creditors: At an average of 18% interest, if you put all of your money toward savings, you're still losing money because your debt is costing you far more than you're making in savings.

Frankly, if you have $1200 coming your way, I would suggest putting $500 in savings, a few hundred toward something for you and the balance to debt. Now, if your debt is $2000 or less, then I'd change it to $400 savings, $400 play and $400 to debt.

One item to note is that, right now, paying down your credit cards to zero or some other obnoxiously low level can actually hurt you as credit card companies are starting to cancel the cards of those people because they are costing the credit card company money and they (the company) are not making enough in return to support the expense. And, when a card is cancelled, it can actually count against your credit score. So, and I hate to say this, there is actually a benefit to the consumer to have some degree of debt at this point - even if it's only a few hundred dollars, just so that there's some profit for the companies that provide the vehicle for the debt.

I hope this helps.

You should get hydraulics and make it a low rider.
