Thanks for offering Mike. Not sure what I want to do yet. I'm sure all the bolts back there are frozen and I don't have air tools so I'd have to pay to have springs installed twice. You know more about this stuff than I do, what about aftermarket spring packs with 2-3" of lift? I saw a set on AC that was the same price as a ONE used stock pack from a junkyard! I'd have a nose down truck until I got aftermarket a arms, 1-1 1/2 difference between front and rear height won't bother me. What are my options? What do you think the best thing I should do is? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figur out what my best plan of attack will be. Thanks!

That was supposed to be my response to your PM, duh. Oh well, opinions welcomed. No, not "Yes, you are an ass Eric" I mean about my best option. Get Mike's SLR springs installed, save some cash and get 3" leaf packs from ________ (someone) and get those installed. I'm sure everything back there is frozen, anyone have air tools? :-)

It looks like it's the main spring. I've never seen that one break. I may have one lying around here, but I'll have to check.

Thanks Scott.

I have everything needed to replace them except the time this weekend. and I work all week. it is pretty straight forward to swap them out you just need to spray all the Ubolts and the shackle/frame mounts well and apply fire. jack up the truck support the axle, swap the springs and done.

If you pay to have them swapped you are better off having a set built for you at a spring shop but will be $500+- in the end for a lousy stock height spring pack.

If I go that route I'll probably get 3 inches of height added.

I have a spare pack available... if that helps.
As for an aftermarket pack, check with Banditt4x4 or - just to get by for a short time - go to a bone yard and get a salvaged pack for about $75. That could buy you some time.

It definitely helps, how much?

Anyone have thoughts on driving the X like this. Looks like it's been like that for a while.

I wouldn't advise it.. Alot things could go wrong. For instance the spring could go into the tire and cause a blow and so on..

a buddy of mine got a new main leaf from donovan a while back. he said they were pretty good to buy from. he just called them up and asked if they could sell him a main leaf only and they had it ready in the next couple of days. i have to do that myself when i get home because both of mine are bent.

also, what you can do to lime (and i mean LIMP) to wherever you need to go is take a couple of c- clamps and clamp that main leaf to the rest of the pack so it doesnt rub the tire. and dont forget, to take it slow and avoid bumps and potholes and such.
thats what i did to get home when i broke the main leaf on my old hardbody.

good luck 8)

I'm going to play it safe and get my dad's car. He's recovering from knee surgery so he won't be needing it. I'll save the desperation ride for the trip to the garage.

I would agree. If it were any other spring you could clamp it and be fine for a while, but I would not drive it far with the main spring broken...that's what's holding your rear axle to your truck.

Ya, I don't even know why I asked. That band going around the top(broken) leaf is all that is holding the pack to the frame.
So the broken spring is also known as the main spring? Ofcourse all the junkyards are closed today.

Found a leaf for $65 from a junkyard in Shirley, MA. If the bolts can be removed...what will I need to do this and could anyone give me some step by step instructions? Thank you!

If it's the passenger side, loosen your gas tank skid as it's about impossible to get the bolt out otherwise.

Take off the lower shackle nut and then pound the bolt to see if it slides out.. if not, PB blast the hell out of it and see if that makes a difference. If not, break out the sawzall, cut it off and get a new bolt / nut combination.

loosen the front nut/bolt, but don't remove them.

Loosen the u-bolts around the axle.

Then, make sure that the jack stands under the frame, in front of the leaf anchor and a jack under the axle are secure.. That way, then the leaf pack starts to come off, the truck doesn't drop.

Then, start taking parts off.

If possible, get new u-bolts as you should never re-use the old ones.

Putting things on is the reverse of the process above.. Don't tighten anything until all the parts are at least bolted on
