I pulled into a parking lot and I hear rubbing coming fromt he rear right tire...never heard that before. I look at the tire..."why is that so close to the trim?" Drive home and look more closely...broken leaf spring. Great more money to spend that I don't have. Anyone know where to get one cheap or have an extra for sale?

Is the leaf itself broken, the band that keeps them from fanning out, the center bolt, what?

The leaf spring, the leaf itself is broken.

I removed the tire so I could push the broken leaf down and free the brake line.
The leaf broke right at the axle-

Looks like I'll have to have it towed, the band is the only thing holding the pack to the frame.

WTF!
I know that if that happened to me I would go to a local spring shop (not Nissan). Look for a place that does van and truck springs. It?s best if you try and take the whole truck rather than just the spring pack so that they can match it up with the other side. You can usually get out of those places pretty cheap and in less than an hour if you go first thing in the morning.

There's no way in hell I'll ever go to Nissan for work. I'm all set with the Nissan Stealerships around here. I doubt there are any spring shops around here, at least I've never seen one.

Like I said, look for a place that deals with commercial trucks and vans. If you don?t want to get towed take both spring packs to them. This could be a great opportunity to have them add a leaf or two, new bands and re-arch them. then you could paint them before putting them back on.

I'm wondering, what the hell caused this to happen? I used to jump my 1987 Toyota and 1991 Toyota 4x4's when I was younger. Nothing ever broke on the '87 the '91 had a broken leaf but, the Xterra has yet to see anything near as "extreme" that could cause this.

I believe there is one on Rte 20 in Shrewsbury. In the stretch where all the trucking companies are. You could try there. Not sure if that will be too far from Chelmsford. I'll see if I can fnd their name if you would like.

Could happen if things where not torque down right but most likely it was the F?n salt they throw on the on the roads sat in that crease for a bit and just ate through it.

They are right down the road from me... we also have Spring rebuilders inc. not far from them.

Check your PMs though, I think I can help.

It looks like it's the main spring. I've never seen that one break. I may have one lying around here, but I'll have to check.
