Jeff showed up on time for the evening run. Barb had made up a batch of Scottish Sweet Bread Squares to tied us over and we headed out, a two man convoy off to the wilds of Western MASS. By the time we arrived and aired down at the trail head it was just after 7pm as we hit the woods. Friday’s rain left the trail wet in the usual places but not very muddy – meaning only muddy in the usual mud holes of which there are certainly enough. Portions of the trail seem to be rockier than last year, so I suspect we’re seeing a bit of erosion taking place. Jeff made the comment that the rocky hill climb after the water crossing just seemed to keep on going. Actually it’s a fun section that keeps you thinking without throwing major potential damage at you. There was a new tree down that we limbed but without daylight, a chain saw or more time than we wanted to spend, we left the trunk still across the trail, requiring a slight detour.

The water level at the crossing was as deep as I want to go – definitely tested the door seals right at sundown.

It took a full 3 hours but we were able to complete the full circle. Last Fall we broke off before taking the final leg back to the start point. Why are obstacles harder going downhill? Here’s a shot of Jeff in the process of smacking his skids.

No obvious carnage but maybe a few more pinstripes!

Yikes - that water crossing looks pretty deep.

Any deeper and we don't go, which is a shame, because the next leg is the long uphill rocky leg and it's a lot of fun. First time I went through, I raced home and installed the breather extension.

Great job on the timing chain, you guys were busy!

Any chance of you guys going out on May 15? I'm hoping to Run the Mill on Saturday and may as well wheel Sunday since I'll be up there.

Tom,

Kind of far off, I don't know what I'm doing this weekend. But a serious maybe on the 15th. Jeff wants to run the mill so he's probably out but I don't see why I couldn't guide you around the usual trails Sunday. Anyone else?

If the weather is good, I'll most likely be doing the Sawmill on Saturday. I'd be up for 'local' wheeling Sunday too as long as the weather isn't miserable.
